Forgotten Gems: Lucasfilm's Rescue on Fractalus! - IGN

@DavidBFox @ign I wish Lucasfilm / Disney would re-release more of their old games. I don't know if I would play them, but I'd probably buy them just so I could see for myself how technology evolved over the years.

(Which is why I don't like it when remakes, remasters, or special editions completely replace the older versions.)

@et_andersson

I would even love to see how an updated Monkey Island Special Edition would look like if it got the same level of polish as Broken Sword Reforged. The remake is 16 years old and it shows.

I don't mind there being special editions or remakes. But I would also like to be able to see the original version, and the ones in between.

Particularly as a ScummVM developer, where I'm currently in the annoying position of trying to improve support for a version of a game that I don't even own. 🙄

@et_andersson

I'm a ScummVM user since 2003. What annoys you also annoys me. 😄

What I see is that the problem is getting worse over the time. We already find abandoned versions of the remakes.

@kontrollierterWahnwitz Even for the games and versions I have managed to get my hands on over the years, I sometimes lament that almost no one will even notice when support for them improves. The Macintosh version of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is my go to example: It's instantly recognizable, but I doubt there is more than a handful people playing it in ScummVM.

I don't know if the developers (including @DavidBFox himself) feel the same way, or if they have long since moved on.

@et_andersson I do not directly profit from your work since I was a PC gamer back in the days. But I really appreciate your work.

Additionally, we will thank Apple in a few years for all the software losses. Mac gaming from 1999 to ~2016 will predictably become a dead spot in the history of computer gaming. Same with iOS gaming in general.
