So proud of my 17 year old son, Dylan.

No only does he write poetry, but is also an LGBT+ spokesperson for his college (and school before that).

Dylan Miller - Writer

Politically Wrong I'm tired of being politics, Being hired to get a box ticked, Being told that I'm in the wrong. So, this is my battle song. I'm accused of starting up Too much of a culture war....

His poem:

Politically Wrong

I'm tired of being politics,
Being hired to get a box ticked,
Being told that I'm in the wrong.
So, this is my battle song.

I'm accused of starting up
Too much of a culture war.
For my rights, I stand up -
That's what I'm here for.

You try to take away my voice
Try to make me go and hide.
I am not a political choice,
It's just who I am inside.

His explanation:.

Yet another LGBTQ+ poem to celebrate Pride in Trafford Waterside Arts! This one feels very fitting with the current news about political parties not being allowed to take part in Pride parades.

This one has a bit of backstory, too! A couple of months ago, I had the opportunity to take part in a conference at my school with local MP Connor Rand. In this conference, I asked him what he was doing to combat the homophobia local LGBTQ+ youth in the area were experiencing.

His answer shocked me. He made reference to some work he had done with the local police force (to which I thought "so far so good"). Then, he claimed that there wasn't much else he could do as he didn't "want to start a culture war". Soon after, I wrote the final stanza of this poem. Looking back on the event a few weeks later, I wrote the remaining stanzas - the second makes a direct reference to Connor's response.

@C_Miller didn't know political parties can't take part in Pride.

Is that just specific parties ruling on that or some sort of Parliament thing?

@C_Miller did a search. Organisers banning - that makes sense considering the current rhetoric from them

UK Pride groups suspend involvement of political parties

The move comes after the Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of "woman".
