Out of curiosity I just contacted @fastmail to see if they hosted my email in Australia. Turns out they don't, its all US-based.

I knew they had offices there but this is something else, calling them an Australian business isn't really true. Honestly I'm pretty disappointed and not sure what to do next.

I get that places still host in the US but I was working to de-Google myself and ultimately reduce my reliance on it, and this just kinda sucks.

#emailhosting #fastmail

@alansuspect @fastmail

Not sure how confident you are about #selfhosting
I found #docker #posteio build on a #vps works fine.
Will slowly move all my corporate-fascist mail onto a self host.

NB. Google makes it hard to receive self hosts.
I had to write a "credibility" shell script to establish my new domain as GMail receipt worthy.

@n_dimension @fastmail yeah every time there's a conversation about email self hosting comes up, but so do the issues and I don't think I have it in me. I'm barely keeping a jellyfin server going 😄

@alansuspect @fastmail

I can totally understand that.
I got the confidence for #selfhosting after I was a professional #SystemAdmin (retired) and about 3 years of slow burn, self training in VPS/Docker so it's approximately intimidating...

...all I can do is recommend tuta.io

@n_dimension @fastmail I think I have a free tuta account set up from ages ago.

I actually left Google and went to Proton, but their version of Drive kept crashing and since the email (like Tuta) are encrypted search is a huge pain in the arse so moved to Fastmail.
