@gumnos idk, I worked for a company that was moving from Java 6 to 7 when Java 7's public end of life was already announced.

Yeah, I joke about 2.4 because this past year I recently (FINALLY!) got to do conversion of the entire 2.4 codebase (originally tied to a proprietary binary database adapter built/licensed for 2.4) at $DAYJOB, bringing it up to 3.x

2.4 was released in 2004 and went out of support in 2008…that's before my 15yo was born. 😬

@uint8_t @gumnos @mayintoronto One of my earlier jobs involved moving many projects from 2.1 to 2.3 🤷‍♂️
@mayintoronto @gumnos @nixCraft so they'll never have to do any patching, neat! 😶‍🌫️

when i see 2.x code:
@nixCraft I laughed much harder at this than I should have
@nixCraft I see your 2.7 and raise you 1.5.2
@synec @nixCraft Is that even compatible with Python 2?
@csolisr @nixCraft Nope. When I started using Python, 2.1 was the current release, and Redhat shipped with Python 1.5.2 for what seemed like forever. And it was before yum, so installing Python 2 was a little more involved than just doing a "yum install".

Did you mean https://boo-language.github.io/ or is that just a happy coincidence?

(It used to be a real thing ~10-12 years ago, was one of the primary languages in Unity's game-dev environment)
