The Space Merchants

A science fiction book that deals with issues relevant even today, it had been a while since I've read one of those!

@joel

Oohhh this is why I find old scifi fascinating, I have to laugh at times on how little imagination some people had back then, or the random use of it 🤣

@immarisabel hah I just think they didn't focus too much on science fiction gadgets. Instead they went for the soft/social sciences, which is actually rather unique for a book written in the 50s

@joel

Great review. It's so interesting that this was out there and seen as coming in the future. I'm tempted to get it. I see there is another book to follow it.

@joel I read The Space Merchants in 1970 or 71. It is one of the books i remember well, seems to have something when our consumerism becomes ridiculous.
One comment raised my ire a bit. Marisabel bemoaned “how little imagination some people had back then”. I strongly disagree! Nearly all SF back then published in magazines that paid pennies per word and bought short stories almost exclusively. Only the most imaginative and well written stories made it to print!
@joel PS, i found your book review on my custom feedle Sci Fi RSS feed which i access via NetNewsWire app!
