@immarisabel hah I just think they didn't focus too much on science fiction gadgets. Instead they went for the soft/social sciences, which is actually rather unique for a book written in the 50s

Joe Dyrt@joel I read The Space Merchants in 1970 or 71. It is one of the books i remember well, seems to have something when our consumerism becomes ridiculous.
One comment raised my ire a bit. Marisabel bemoaned “how little imagination some people had back then”. I strongly disagree! Nearly all SF back then published in magazines that paid pennies per word and bought short stories almost exclusively. Only the most imaginative and well written stories made it to print!
