Talking about power trip..

This woman should get a raise

Edit: video appears to be a reenactment*

@stux I’ve seen this going around, it’s pretty great. It is, however, a scripted reenactment scene, not actual news.
Still great, however.

it's probably best practice online to look for a citation that something is authentic, rather than believe things by default until they're debunked

Fact Check: Video Does NOT Authentically Capture Real Cop 'Losing His Mind' Over Parking Ticket

Did a video shared on social media authentically capture a real-life scene showing a police officer "losing his mind" over a parking ticket? No, that's not true: The video originated from a channel that publishes re-enactments. Its website additionally emphasized...

@EchoExMachina Uh-huh. Never heard of "Lead Stories" let alone "Uliana Malashenko," whose family name is Russian, easily traced to Bryansk oblast east of Belarus.

@raynetoday Regardless of the author's surname, the article cites *the video's source* where it has a disclaimer saying their videos are produced content and not real bodycam footage.

@EchoExMachina That's what you should have led with, especially since your account is whopping 8 weeks old, has few follows/followers/posts.

Don't just expect people to trust some unknown news site that could be pink slime.

Pink slime and ‘truthpapers’: why more local news publications is not necessarily better

While small publications are springing up to fill “news deserts” there are concerns around quality and transparency.

@EchoExMachina @raynetoday But they’re not the OP. @stux is, and they have edited their post to add that it’s a re-enactment.
Thx Echo for volunteering the citations! I didn’t have time to do that. :)

@marquisedewhat @EchoExMachina But whatever. If you're going to make a cogent, trustworthy criticism, bring credible receipts upfront ESPECIALLY when you don't have a history on Mastodon to support your credibility.

Now I'm going liberate you from wasting our time any further. *block*

Nah. Thanks but no, not relying on a site that in turn relies on revenue from Meta and ByteDance.
@raynetoday it's an IFCN-verified fact-checking site and their link to the video's source was like two paragraphs down... at a certain point it stops being my responsibility to spoon feed information to folks

@EchoExMachina @marquisedewhat @stux Thanks.

You're not wrong, but it's also helpful to lead with the citation in such cases.

Four Chicago cops just received the most expensive parking ticket ever: $1.5 million.

@blechterror @EchoExMachina @marquisedewhat Why am I not surprised that was here in Chicago...
