Talking about power trip..

This woman should get a raise

Edit: video appears to be a reenactment*

@stux "When did THAT happen." Love it <3

@pixplz @anders_von_hadern @stux Thank you for letting us know this is fake. It did strike me as a bit staged.
@bodhipaksa
I don't know how bodycams work in the US but probably if it was real, it would never have been published
@pixplz @anders_von_hadern @stux

@jaj @pixplz @anders_von_hadern @stux

Probably not in this case. I can only remember seeing body camera footage being published when there's controversy (freedom of information acts, subpoenas, etc). It's probably not going to happen for a minor confrontation between a cop and a meter maid, unless, you know, he shot her and claimed he thought her notepad was a gun.

@stux

He seems to be holding a drink. Was his 'official police business' getting coffee at a coffee shop?

@rgulick Donuts do seem to be part of "official police business"
@stux @rgulick I think Ice-T sang about this on their first Body Count albumn
@rgulick @stux most likely. American cops believe that they're allowed to routinely break the law while they're on the clock.
@stinerman @rgulick While they should be the ones setting the example..
@stux @rgulick "I didn't break the law...I am the law!" is popular here.

@stux

"We just enforce the law, we don't have to abide by it."

@stinerman

@stinerman @rgulick @stux that's what literally every US movie alludes to.
@stux You are one a power trip! Says the person clearly NOT on a power trip who thinks he's above the law.
@stux lmfao yes! yes!
@stux Iโ€™ve seen this going around, itโ€™s pretty great. It is, however, a scripted reenactment scene, not actual news.
Still great, however.
@marquisedewhat great and incredibly accurate, yeah

it's probably best practice online to look for a citation that something is authentic, rather than believe things by default until they're debunked

@EchoExMachina Uh-huh. Never heard of "Lead Stories" let alone "Uliana Malashenko," whose family name is Russian, easily traced to Bryansk oblast east of Belarus.

@raynetoday Regardless of the author's surname, the article cites *the video's source* where it has a disclaimer saying their videos are produced content and not real bodycam footage.

@EchoExMachina That's what you should have led with, especially since your account is whopping 8 weeks old, has few follows/followers/posts.

Don't just expect people to trust some unknown news site that could be pink slime.

Pink slime and โ€˜truthpapersโ€™: why more local news publications is not necessarily better

While small publications are springing up to fill โ€œnews desertsโ€ there are concerns around quality and transparency.

@EchoExMachina @raynetoday But theyโ€™re not the OP. @stux is, and they have edited their post to add that itโ€™s a re-enactment.
Thx Echo for volunteering the citations! I didnโ€™t have time to do that. :)

@marquisedewhat @EchoExMachina But whatever. If you're going to make a cogent, trustworthy criticism, bring credible receipts upfront ESPECIALLY when you don't have a history on Mastodon to support your credibility.

Now I'm going liberate you from wasting our time any further. *block*

Nah. Thanks but no, not relying on a site that in turn relies on revenue from Meta and ByteDance.
@raynetoday it's an IFCN-verified fact-checking site and their link to the video's source was like two paragraphs down... at a certain point it stops being my responsibility to spoon feed information to folks

@EchoExMachina @marquisedewhat @stux Thanks.

You're not wrong, but it's also helpful to lead with the citation in such cases.

Cops Receive $1.5 Million Parking Ticket

Four Chicago cops just received the most expensive parking ticket ever: $1.5 million.

NBC Chicago
@blechterror @EchoExMachina @marquisedewhat Why am I not surprised that was here in Chicago...
@marquisedewhat @stux Yeah, I was thinking how did the โ€œcopโ€ body cam get on TikTok?
@stux here on official police donut shop business
@stux for one, I don't like parking tickets, I think it's a waste of time. But this? This is gold! This is exactly what parking attendants need to be doing, ACAB.
@MamaLake @stux Guy with full handicap plates and valid placard called the local police on the meter maid giving him a ticket for parking in a handicap space. I wonder what the judge did in court to the meter maid.
@mvilain ? Did this happen? It could be that a handicap space still requires meter payment or there was another issue...

@tsyum It was a handicap space outside a Whole Foods ON THE STREET about 10 years ago. The meter maid started writing the ticket before checking the dash for the placard and I guess didn't see the license plate.

@stux she got arrested.
@Lana @stux Is there an article on this?
@anubis2814 @stux no, I watched the next two parts from the op on TikTok.

@Lana @anubis2814 @stux He follows her, destroys her ticket machine (city property), arrests her. What do you think are the legal consequences?

Thanks to @pixplz

BUT it is a reenactment of a REAL case: In 2006, three police officers acted similar, the meter maid was later rewarded $1.5 million in damages: https://amy-movie.com/blog/viral-bodycam-video-showing-cop-threatening-parking-officer-is-fake/

@stux Wonder what a judge would do in this circumstance.

Interesting that she can ticket the car but could a towing company tow it without risking it's business license? Towing government vehicles is a no no.

Firefighters wouldn't hesitate to break it's windows to reach a fire hydrant.

In any case, his shift supervisor isn't going to be happy with him, especially with this video going viral.
