Sigh.

*folds hands together under chin and points fingertips at camera*

Listen.

This book is so fucking annoying.

The first actual 300 pages are pretty much a snoozefest. Yes, there is a bit of worldbuilding, we get to know the main characters a bit, but not much happens. Which I wouldn't have minded as much, had the writing not been so cringy. Swear to Snakavik or whatever, say 'thought-cage' one more time and I'll scream. And, on that note, what is up with the hyphenated adjectives? This author uses more hyphenated words in one chapter than most use in their entire career. But then, after 300 pages, suddenly, the pacing picks up and things start to get interesting.

And then at the very very end, it gets good. So good, in fact, that I now have to read the sequel.

It better not be as annoying as this one.

I partly read his the faithful and the fallen series, and it was so boring, I got to the third book and just couldn't keep reading, nothing was happening the whole time. I doubt this series is any better if you're already feeling the same way.
@JJauthor I'll give the sequel a chance, but if it starts off similarly I might DNF. I don't mind a slow burn, but the writing simply wasn't engaging enough to pull off the pacing.
