"How's your day going, you peaceful work-from-home guy you?"

"Garbage truck exploded. You?"

this week's recording of #60SecondsOfWIP is delayed by an exploded burning garbage truck outside my office window.

Murica, serving up free metaphors.

By my count, there are eleven homes who have clear lines of sight to this little debacle. At least half of them are occupied at this moment.

Yet I'm the only one who came out to see if they were okay and if they needed anything.

Or brought out water for these guys.

Now that the fire is out, one of the guys is pissed. He loaded trash, hopped up after it, and something in the trash exploded. Because one of my neighbors threw out something explosive.

You rage, sir. Rage like hell. Tell the boss. Send a nastygram to my whole damn street.

I can't prove whose trash it was, but the trash they had just loaded? It was a big pile, because the jerk neighbors' grandkids cleaned out forty years of detritus from that garage last weekend.

@mwl lipo battery, almost certainly. lucky they didn't drop all the trash out onto the street

@sungo they have! Had to get the fire out.

Support team has arrived.

@mwl awesome. last story like this I heard, the trash folks just left the trash in the street because the truck was obviously busted now. also, you know, fuck those people have your trash back
@mwl @sungo I hauled trash for a few years in high school. I love both of you.

@sng @sungo

You better bring your own water, dude. Because any trash fire you're involved in is 100% sus.

@mwl @sng it could be said that trash fires are a key component of his career. they certainly are in mine.

@sungo @sng

and every one of them is sus.

perhaps not his fault, or yours. But sus all the same.

@mwl

Holy fark. Aerosol cans can explode when compressed, but unless there's a dozen or something it'd be more a muffled POP instead of an explosion.

Propane tank? Mostly empty gas can? Lithium batteries? Do car batteries explode when squeezed? SO MANY POSSIBILITIES

@mwl

I’ve always wondered how that doesn’t happen more often

One of of neighbors garage (separate from their house luckily) caught on fire some years ago. It went from “where is that smoke coming from” to holy-f’ing-shitballs real quick. Enormous fireballs every time something flammable set off

@mwl Yep. We all judge, even those who say they don't. It's really about _correct_ judgments, and lack of pre-judgments. You judged correctly (in my judgment), and as Mr. Rogers used to say, "Look for the helpers, there are always helpers." He meant you, sir.
@mwl See!! City workers! Next knocks on the door.
@mwl In Germany approximately once every day a garbage truck catches fire. People are strongly discouraged from putting lithium batteries in the waste bin. Hope no one gets injured.
Edit: it's prohibited anyway
@mwl
Mmm Springtime in Michigan. I can almost feel the humidity. I miss that.
