What are the most deepcut or obscure adult animated series? - Lemmy.World

- Quads! - Heil Honey, I’m Home (cartoon)

Anyone else remember the Oblongs?
The oblongs and quads (which used to air back to back when I watched) are like a fever dream. What the fuck, actually.
Drawn Together?

I mean that was advertised like crazy on comedy Central when it was on the air.

Same with the Oblongs when it was on adult swim. They had Will Ferrell on the show.

Maybe the PJ’s

That one was a good one. It’s a shame that’s the show that ultimately brought down Vinton Studios, financially. They were the ones who did the California raisins commercials, and the M&Ms commercials, among other things.

That crash is what ultimately got Phil Knight,of Nike fame, to gain a majority share of the studio and fire Will Vinton. He then put his son, Travis Knight, in charge of the studio, and changed the name to Laika.

I had animation instructors who worked in the PJs before they were all laid off. Everyone was bitter about the Vinton getting fired. I did get to meet Vinton once too, so that was neat!

SlackerCats - obscure, ran for half a season

Clerks The Animated Series - obscure, ran for half a season

Carol and the end of the world (Mainstream but wildly serene, surreal, and overtly human)

Moral Oral - pretty dark adult show

Ren and Stimpy - pretty dark for a kids show

I’m sure I’ll think of a few more

I’m surprised Ren and Stimpy made it in the obscure list. They were about as popular as anything when they were on.
Not so obscure, but very dark. This was a kids show on Nickelodeon after all. Have you watched it?

Have I watched it?

HAVE I WATCHED IT???

Have you ever shaved a yak? Have you ever enjoyed powdered toast? Have you ever sung along with Stinky Whizzleteats?!?

I was watching Ren & Stimpy before you were saving up your allowance to buy a Log.

I mean, to be fair, none of those things are things I can tell from here.
The adult party cartoon might be obscure enough to make the list.
My friend and I still quote clerk’s to this day! Such a great show. So dumb, but great!
Ralph Bakshi made an animated series for HBO called Spicy City. It is very adult, and not something I see mentioned often.

Trip tank

Superjail

Frisky Dingo
Cats party is still my favourite ringtone.
Do you have bluetooth?
Cat party? It’s all about Dog Party now.

Assy McGee

Assy McGee truly stood on it’s own. Worst possible idea and they just went for it. Beautiful

Obscure for people outside the UK:
Monkey Dust

Obscure for me:
The point of this post.

Ever seen Bromwell High by chance?

I’ve not, but it looks very British.

I’ll try to get round to giving it a watch if/when I get the chance/time.

The LABiA pitches, the dinner party twats, the West Brom terror cell, the Daisy Harris murder inquiry, Ivan Dobsky… if anything, they’ve got better with age. Plus some, like Clive, are pretty timeless.

Fritz the Cat. Not to be confused with Felix the Cat. Fritz the Cat was, essentially, an adults only version of Felix. And by adult only I mean pornographic.

I’m also not seeing anyone mention Mission Hill so throw that onto the pile. It’s hella good.

Also Clone High.

+1 for Clone High. I still quote it regularly.
“Precious cargo”… ☕️
Salute from the old skool! And oh my brother, does the internet archive have a treat for you…
A lot of things listed here are earler works from wrll-known creators, like Clone High (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump St and Sealab 2021 (Archer).

The old Brad Neely stuff is really special.

I think doing the serialized China IL broke him somehow…but the old stuff is some of my favorite media. There’s just such charm to this neurodivergent harmless manchild main character.

Turns out, we were both in love with the same fresh ghost.
All of the adult swim shows like ATHF, Brak Show, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Squidbillies, Home Movies, Metalocalypse, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, Sealab 2021, and probably a few others I can’t remember. Also, not animated but I would put Sifl & Olly in the mix because it fucking rocks.
Everybody should check out the adultswim.fan instance which has communities for all these shows as well as general ones like [email protected] and [email protected]

Heck yeah to all these!

I had a black cat with green eyes I named Sifl. Got attitude from quite a few people about what TF was wrong with me for naming a cat after syphilis…

Hoops is a recent one that cracked my shit up, and I was bummed didn’t get another season of two

The Simpsons
Dude, you got to check out this obscure cartoon by the same creator. It’s called Futurama
You guys are gonna love Family Guy.
I don't see Aeon Flux mentioned yet. The Maxx is very good too. Duckman I remember being hilarious, but I dunno if starring Jason Alexander counts as a deep cut.
I’ll 1 up you and go with Liquid Television, where Aeon Flux started-- like Tracy Ulman & the Simpsons.
Duckman was pretty mainstream when it aired, but it’s been largely forgotten. Ahead of its time, humor-wise.
Sit down, shut up. Jason Bateman, will forte, and will arnette are high school teachers. It lasted one season with fox giving it random timeslots.
The Ol’ Firefly treatment
Mission Hill
I remember loving this show as a kid. I still laugh when I think about "douchebag" written in cursive.
You may be happy to know there is an archive of all the episodes :)
12 Oz. Mouse. Twelve is also the number of fans the show has.
All I remember of that show was catching it on a VHS after I left it recording to grab squidbillies one night, and there was a scene of a shark trying to start a car for a really, really long time, which was pretty damn funny.
That’s a great episode lol
“You barely piece of suck-ass car.”
That show is so dang good.

You’re not gonna believe this, my upvote just got you to 12

Yeah loved that series, had no idea that it was ever considered to be continued
