My dad sent me this article the other day and I literally laughed out loud when I read the title.

Only an American would write a title like that.

This City Was Just Named the Most Walkable in the World

Looking to explore by foot? These are the most walkable cities in the world, according to a new report.

You should know that these "city rankings" are always a load of nonsense and should never be taken seriously.

They're usually put together in an afternoon by a marketing department, in this case, it's a marketing piece for a home loans website.

The goal is to get clicks, not to be accurate. In fact, the less accurate you are, the more likely you are to get clicks, so getting the intern to put it together in Excel based off of an arbitrary "scoring system" is a benefit.

@notjustbikes The 'most livable city' ranking was intended to be for a business man visiting on a work trip. That is rarely mentioned when discussing them.

@LovesTha it was meant for "expats" and targeted entirely at HR departments so that they can evaluate compensation and hardship pay.

Every one of these ranking systems is nonsense. I should probably make a video about it some day, if I can bring myself to care enough about it. 😂

@LovesTha @notjustbikes It also typically only considers the inner city, and not the car dependent sprawl surrounding it.

For example, Melbourne is a fantastic city for walkability, public transport, and decent for cycling if you only consider the parts that are covered by the tram network.

Or just the inner suburbs that have AFL teams named after them.

Once you get out to outer suburbs like Wantirna South or Rowville... It's a very different matter!
@aj @notjustbikes Yeah, but business meetings aren't in those places, so why would they be considered?
