A Unique Perspective – Unusual Topographic Maps in the Collections | Worlds Revealed

The Geography and Map Division has thousands of topographic maps in its collections but some have a unique take on the rest of the category. This blog post highlights several maps and models that stand out as being different in form and shape from other topographic maps including a chocolate bar map, a pop up map, and a map made of compressed paper among others.

Souvenir molded chocolate often comes with a vacuum formed plastic mold. You can use this to make non-chocolate versions. I have a small concrete Mt Rushmore now.

I attended a school for #blind and #LowVision students for grades 8-10.

We had large, wooden #topographic and #Political maps of #Europe and the #USA. They were basically giant #puzzles.

Europe was made/acquired between #WWI and #WWII. In ninth grade, our World History teacher would sometimes quiz us. This why I can identify #Latvia, #Estonia, and #Lithuania. Same teacher read us All Quiet on the Western Front, and shared this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Fuehrer%27s_Face#Song.
