I realize this is probably a cultural thing, so I’m probably a horrible person for calling this a #FAFO, but come on.

@maggiejk at least in part more likely lack of resources for #biosecurity and testing - although it seems they were eating raw/undercooked meat which is always going to be a risk. Even so, anthrax is still rare and folk eat beef all the time across ESEA (East and SE Asia) - Malaysia is stepping up biosecurity controls even though the part of Thailand this occured in is far away from the border..

@vfrmedia yeah I I’m so grossed out by that, and I realize that there are cultural differences at play, but come on. Ew.

@maggiejk eating raw beef was (and to a lesser extent still is) common across Europe - the original hamburger steak (from Hamburg, Germany) was raw, there is still steak tatare and there is even Mett (raw pork), although the modern recipe for "broodjes tataar" (a Dutch version of a hamburger) suggests cooking the meat

I still don't trust it, there's plenty of nasties you could catch and I am not a cat [0] who can process raw meat without getting ill..
