Yesterday, we visited the cottage where Thomas Hardy was born. Sitting at this window was where he wrote his first two successful novels - 'Under the Greenwood Tree', and 'Far From the Madding Crowd'.
I'd have spent all my time looking out at the beautiful garden...

@RickGaehl in 1981 he was still remembered locally, "that miserable old git" IIRC.
Clouds Hill down the road towards Corfe is on my list to look at, the off-duty pad of Lawrence of Arabia.
@midgephoto
I visited Clouds Hill a couple of years back. It's a strange, little place - a bit like it's late owner, I guess.
@RickGaehl I would like to know his secret: How can you sit at such a wonderful window and look out ... *and* work?
@NatureMC
I know! He must have liked the view because he put his desk there, but how he managed to work I have no idea.
@RickGaehl I also have a wonderful window at my desk where I can watch an ancient orchard and the mountains. But I never wrote any of my books there. For writing, especially deadlines, I sit in front of a wall. 😁
@RickGaehl @NatureMC Dylan Thomas's boat house in Laugharne has an even better view, although I don't know where his desk was
@Beedazzled @NatureMC
It faced the water. I posted a picture of it a while back.
@RickGaehl @NatureMC I missed that one. I have seen it from the footpath many times but never been in. Amazing views
