TikTok fined $600 million for sending user data to China

An Irish court has fined TikTok for breaching the EU’s GDPR regulations and a lack of transparency in its privacy policy.

@randahl the fine is OK, but the amount is ridiculous for the corporate with estimated revenue of ~$15 billions in 2023.
P.S.: I love EU too 😀
@JigenDaisukeJr @randahl And the money should go to the users whose data was stolen.
@randahl I wish I lived in the EU with its crazy ideas that government has a duty to protect its citizens.
@randahl Extremely love it that Finland is in talks with hosting a server for them, so Tiktok can subvert regulations and directly spy on people
@Mimesatwork Source?
@Mimesatwork thank you.
@randahl Np! I'm sure the official stance it that this will only make them better conform to EU data regulations, but tbh, when it comes to dealing with megacorps, you just can't trust anything they say
@randahl #broligarchs hate this one trick: obeying the fucking #law !!

@randahl I love it too.

I asked before but got no answer: do you know how the money of these fines is used? Is it spent on social programs? Military use? Shared across member country? Self financing?

I know Apple and Meta were fined too, it adds up to nice sums! I hope it's for good use...

@fo I do not, but I suppose they benefit the entire EU budget.
