@Climatehistories Great News. But I miss in the article the info that today is a public holiday here, which drives the demand down. So not only the weather is a factor to reach the 99%.

Edit: There is mention of it
> A slump in demand due to the public holiday is coinciding with a surge in solar generation and the region’s first mini-heat wave.

I probably over read it. Sorry.

@nicht_bei_social_media

Still, this is great news.

@Climatehistories @nicht_bei_social_media Not that great. What do you do when days are short and cloudy? Burn fossil fuels and emit plenty of CO2 and other pollutants?
@mihamarkic @Climatehistories @nicht_bei_social_media what else would be great? Do nothing and wait?
@generationX @Climatehistories @nicht_bei_social_media Do it better, large CO2 could have been avoided if Germany kept nuclear. Especially at the start, Germany was burning coal like it was 1850.
@generationX @Climatehistories @nicht_bei_social_media And even now there is no clear plan or timeline to get rid of CO2 emissions, is it?
@mihamarkic @Climatehistories @nicht_bei_social_media I thought Germany only used about 6% coming from nuclear power. Not so much to have a big lever on CO2 reduction. Maybe I'm wrong.
@generationX @Climatehistories @nicht_bei_social_media 6% is a lot of CO2 from coal. Also they could have built more NPPs.
@mihamarkic @generationX @Climatehistories Germany planned no new nuclear power since the end of the 70s. So its therefore logic that about a half century later the era of nuclear power ends.
The CO2 emissions sunk with no nuclear power in the mix. The background is good explained by Prof. Dr. Kemfert in the podcast https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/podcast/kemfert-klima/audio-atomkraft-atomausstieg-klimaschutzgesetz-oranienburg-100.html
(In German, but there is a text version that you can be translated by a service of your choice)

@nicht_bei_social_media @generationX @Climatehistories Bad planning since 70s, eh. Sure, if one has coal as main power source, any renewable source thrown in the mix sunks co2 emissions. But due to the nature or renewables, one still outputs a hefty amount of co2 regardless. And it can't be avoided unless energy storage at scale becomes available - which won't for the foreseeable future.
@mihamarkic @generationX @Climatehistories No, the bad planning was done by Peter Altmaier how killed the building of renewable in 2010s. If we want to play would be if: If the Altmaier-Knick would not have happened, Germany would produce much less CO2 today.
