ILLINOISโ€ฆ Gov. Pritzkerโ€ฆ
@thetnholler.bsky.social I have enormous respect for Pritzker but this seems a bit over the edge. Are other Democratic officials also calling for that?
@AlgoCompSynth @thetnholler.bsky.social
Iโ€™m pretty sure the pearl clutching time has been sent to a El Salvadorian concentration camp. Do you want leaders to lead, or do you want โ€œleadersโ€ like Gavin Newsom promoting fascists on his podcast?

@jonathankoren @thetnholler.bsky.social I finally got a chance to hear the whole Pritzker speech a couple of hours ago. That one sound bite doesn't do it justice. It's a brilliant speech.

The thing is, people *are* taking to the streets and they *are* pushing back. They've stopped some of the bleeding, but we need more stronger voices like Pritzker's. We can't do it from the streets alone.

@AlgoCompSynth @jonathankoren If only there were more billionaires paying to write brilliant speeches for their political campaigns.

@AlgoCompSynth @thetnholler.bsky.social pay attention in history class next time. You're at the "but Hitler would never" stage, and one Reichstag away from arresting political opponents.

Actually, given the recent arrests of judges that "sabotaged" the human trafficking to El Salvador, looks like you won't need a Reichstag.

@AlgoCompSynth @thetnholler.bsky.social As long as Trump and the GOP continue down the path they are presently on, this is the least we can do. In fact, this is closer to "pearl clutching" if we're honest.

Personally, if things keep going the direction they have been and we wind up with an invoked Insurrection Act and quite possibly Martial Law, Pritzker and other governors step up as CiC's of their state Guard and militia troops, and put an end to this ridiculous presidency.

@QuarkMaker @thetnholler.bsky.social That sounds an awful lot like Kent State to me. But in the absence of half a dozen GOP Representatives and two dozen Senators willing to give up their political careers and vote publicly to impeach and convict, you're right; it's going to fall on the governors.

The road to fascism is lined with centrists telling you to stop overreacting.

@angiebaby @AlgoCompSynth @thetnholler.bsky.social we're always so fucked politically, either fascism gets halted, and they're like "see, told you" or it's too late
@angiebaby @thetnholler.bsky.social I haven't told anyone to stop over-reacting. My issue is with the people who think we can solve this in the streets alone. It has to happen in board rooms and Congressional committee hearings and courtrooms and state legislatures too.

@AlgoCompSynth @thetnholler.bsky.social But people in the streets reminds timid politicians who want to do the right thing know that the people are willing to stand behind them and hopefully give them the nudge they need to do the right thing.

@angiebaby Yes, absolutely, we need to keep up the demonstrations / protests and elected Democrats need to do everything the law allows to build their platform and stop the bleeding.

But we are up against a ruthless gang of people unique in our history - fascist racketeers. We need *more* people - and corporations - to join the fight. The courts and voters and Democrats can't do it alone.

@AlgoCompSynth @thetnholler.bsky.social fwiw Becca Balint, congressperson from VT, has also said people need to get in the streets and shut things down in response to judicial overreach
@cthon1c @thetnholler.bsky.social Prtizker's speech was in New Hampshire; yeah, this whole "No Kings" thing started in New England.

Um, yes. This is over the edge, but we have been over the edge since Trump was elected. The real question you need to ask yourself is "do I want to face reality and fight to protect the land and people I love or do I want to live in a made up fantasy realm where we can all get along?"
@roy_fireball @thetnholler.bsky.social The only people living in a fantasy world now are Trump's cabinet. The conduct of this administration is indistinguishable from racketeering and their fantasy is that they have a mandate to keep doing it.
