I saw this one posted on Threads abd sharing here for some laughs ๐Ÿ˜‚. Within a few years, we will have jobs to fix all the technical debt created by vibe coders ๐Ÿ˜‰ khhh
@nixCraft kinda funny that this image was made using AI ๐Ÿ˜…
@bazkie is it? Oh well. I canโ€™t tell these days if itโ€™s AI created or photoshopped. It is getting harder and harder for me.
@nixCraft you can see it in the 'g' and in the text on the left side of the book! also the front of the pen seems a bit skewed.. but yeah it's getting harder to detect these days!
@bazkie @nixCraft Dang... *deletes my saved copy* โ˜น๏ธ
@bazkie I came here to say just this
@nixCraft I'm random coder, I don't even code I'm studying food technology I don't even know what I'm doing in programming spaces
@nixCraft I just learned the word vibe. My girl snuck hers into my words while editing the last email, "Im cool with it." -phill "but probably won't be next time...as in I'll change it before posting and not tell her."
@nixCraft Why do I have this urge to post bluetooth connected vibrator pictures any time someone mentions vibe coding?

@sirwumpus @nixCraft did you ever see the iBrator parody commercial when the iMac came out in the late โ€˜90s / early โ€˜00s?

@nixCraft Gah! Please no. There is enough job as it is with the "old school" vibe coders.
@nixCraft Now that governments are fighting against planned obsolescence, big tech brings planned goofs to the market โ€‹โ€‹
@nixCraft "OK Copilot, no mistakes, don't hallucinate, make me a for-loop that counts to 10"
@nixCraft "wtf I said NO mistakes DONT hallucinate"
@djsf @nixCraft (loop for x from 1 to 10 do (princ x)) no clue why but this way it looks to me if it would be shorter to write it that way to tell a computer to count to 10
@m3tti @nixCraft sorry, can't use it. that code just has bad ~~vibes~~ (/s)
@nixCraft you say "we will have jobs to fix all the technical debt created by vibe coders" but of course that only includes those who have not suffered from skills atrophy due to over dependence on LLMs

@nixCraft that's the thing I keep talking to friend about who is very pro.vibe coding.

He used to drone on about how code is a liability. The less code the better. But now he's having AI spit out slop that he has no idea what it's doing.

How is that sustainable?!

@codemonkeymike @nixCraft sounds like they dont actually understand why less code is better
@nixCraft we allready have this kind of job, its called Sr. Developers

@nixCraft

Unless the vibe coded cyber physical systems kill us first :-(

@nixCraft Those jobs already exist, they're called early-stage startups!

So many founders writing shit code, getting funding, then hiring real devs to build the actual thing.

Not saying it can't get worse, but "fixing things written by people who think they're developers but aren't" has literally been my job description for years now across multiple companies.

@nixCraft
More headache for us. Horary
But more paid work as well.
So is it a net positive or a net negative??

@nixCraft VaaS

Vulnerability as a Service

@nixCraft Yeah, the funniest part about that image is that it was generated by AI.
@nixCraft usually I am not one for throwing it all out and starting over but this might be the exception
Vibe Coding: The Future of Programming

AI is transforming software development, shifting programmers from writing code to collaborating with AI in an intent-driven workflowโ€”this is vibe coding. Vibe Coding: The Future of Programming explores how AI-powered โ€ฆ - Selection from Vibe Coding: The Future of Programming [Book]

@nixCraft I think it's funny that you think those things will get repaired eventually.

But yes, keep that positive outlook on the world.

Help! I tried to update my vibrator's firmware and it didn't work!! | Frequently Asked Questions and Support Center

@nixCraft We already have jobs fixing tech debt from resumรฉ-driven development.
@SistaWendy @nixCraft looool what is Resume-driven development?
@djsf @nixCraft Thatโ€™s when people write piles of overly complicated code that is better for their career prospects than for any using or paying for it.
@SistaWendy @nixCraft oh god i hate it when ppl do this
@nixCraft coming soon: vibe medicine and vibe aviation
@nixCraft
I offer a non-AI alternative:
@nixCraft this is a regular topic in my team. we are having to clean up tech debt that was clearly LLM generated code that got merged. People say PR reviews should prevent it, but they were done in all these cases and they got merged anyway. teams with a looming deadline don't spend time on code quality even if it is "enforced" through manual and automatic means. LLMs allow them to make hazardous waste for code at an unprecedented scale.
