@opiate While I think he will likely do that as well, I think he will contract them out to countries like el Salvador, the exact same way and for the exact same reason, as trump.

It will allow him to disappear people without any form of due process. Like trump, he will then claim it's not possible to get them back.

@crinstamcamp I know the fear and why it's there (what with his suspiciously similar stances on things) but what I'm try to figure out is - why do you think that? Has he said so? Or is it just a fear? Even if he used the notwithstanding clause (because we know the supreme court with never allow it), he would be in a world of hurt due to the backlash. It would be pretty harsh for him, I'd like to think. Kind of political suicide, really.

But maybe you know more about this than I do. I'm curious

Do you think what trump has done, is doing, and will do has been constrained by the laws there?

I've seen the idiots writing that our system is different and it can't happen here, just like their American counterparts said that about trump.

It's worked out well in every country where a deranged right wing nutbar has turned democracies into dictatorships...

And yes, I do feel like our system is stronger than theirs on many respects. But, like you, I also don't think it's fool proof. There is always room for improvement.

I'm just asking *why* you think that? That's it. That's all. If it's just a hunch, then fine. Whatever. I don't trust the prick as much as the next person, too.

I say it because the cons are repeating the same playbook trump used, which is the same play book that has been used to turn democracies into dictatorships the world over.

How many times do people have to see it play out before they stop being surprised?

There are number of people who are complacent and think it would *never* happen here. Democracy only works when all are involved, educated and engaged. If not, then the idea dies. Because, yes, democracy is only an idea we all agree to. It can and, dare I say, will fall at some point if people become too relaxed.
