Trends in CO2 - NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory

GML conducts research on greenhouse gas and carbon cycle feedbacks, changes in aerosols, and surface radiation, and recovery of stratospheric ozone.

@ZLabe

Surprised this hasn't been de-published, yet (or paywalled).
@ZLabe Do we now why methane did not rise between 1995 and 2005 ?
Methane in the atmosphere is surging, and that's got scientists worried

Scientists love a good mystery. But it's more fun when the future of humanity isn't at stake.

@matclab @ZLabe Maybe because we ban cfc? In that time after discover the issue with ozone layer.

@ZLabe

Fascism : same graphic.

@ZLabe This company (Moravské naftové doly ~ Moravian oil mines) is still releasing huge quantities of methane to the air: https://www.irozhlas.cz/zpravy-domov/v-cesku-unika-do-ovzdusi-metan-za-miliardu-korun-rocne-rucni-brzda-proti_2504240640_dci

@ZLabe ... thanks for sharing!

The summary is also worth reading and is very worrying if the development regarding the increase in greenhouse gases continues at this rate¹:

👉🏻 The AGGI in 2023 was 1.51, which means that we’ve turned up the warming influence from greenhouse gases by 51% since 1990.
👉🏻 It took ~240 years for the AGGI to go from 0 to 1, i.e., to reach 100%, and 33 years for it to increase by another 51%.
👉🏻 In terms of CO2 equivalents, the atmosphere in 2023 contained 534 ppm, of which 419 is CO2 alone. The rest comes from other gases.
👉🏻 CO2 is by far the largest contributor to the AGGI in terms of both amount and rate of increase.
👉🏻 Note: The IPCC suggests that a constant concentration of CO2 alone at 550 ppm would lead to an average increase in Earth’s temperature of ~3°C (5.4°F).

Annual Greenhouse Gas Index (AGGI) - NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory

The AGGI is a measure of the climate-warming influence of long-lived trace gases in the atmosphere and how that has changed over time

@ZLabe And this makes me wonder if the human race is too stupid to save itself.
@ZLabe The daily figure for CO2 for 23rd April from Keeling Curve is 430+ ppm, Zack. All those figures are bad - but none of the politicians on either side of the pond seem to care, except, perhaps, for the Greens here in Europe &, I imagine, the US & Canada. 74% of Americans want action on climate change (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/apr/23/climate-action-politicians), but that didn't stop Trump's re-election.
‘An outlier’: why does the US rank low on demands for climate action?

Support for climate action is growing in the US, but partisan divides and fossil fuel interests hold sway

The Guardian

@ZLabe Oh, lovely.

Wait, do we trust NOAA data anymore? I mean, I'd assume it'd go in the opposite direction, but still.

@ZLabe

Even though the Nitrous Oxide levels are increasing, I am still not laughing.

#ClimateChange

@SpaceLifeForm @ZLabe not all nitrous oxide is funny. some of it, idk the exact formula, can create small holes in ur lungs and kill you. but that's only at a high concentration
@ZLabe what causes nitrous to rise?
