Remember late 3.0 & 21-22 when fans shit on peaks in improv?

“That ::insert jam/band:: is too peaky he said as he listened to a 25-min Ruby Waves without a single memorable section.”

Can we all now agree Phish is best when peaking balls while Trey tears the ass out of his guitar?

Also with Phish, it was totally a thing that for a while in late 3.0 they were kinda going to Insta Peaks when jams started meandering. So I’m not sure who you’re out for here— n00bs or JadedVets of Phish or Goose. But Ph & G have gotten flak for formulaic streaks, and sound best when not doing that

@cottonmather.bsky.social In late 3.0, jams became slower and less focused. We got more long jams but they were far less exciting. I called this Trump-era Phish.

Those with the opposite belief argued Trey stepped back for full band jamming and not everything needs a peak.

People who think Trump-era Phish is really good are idiots and shouldn’t be listened to.
I would take the best 2017-2019 jams over the best 4.0 jams any day. 4.0 shows have been more consistent beginning to end but the jams just haven’t been as special IMO, albeit a few exceptions in 2021 maybe.
@bandino.bsky.social @chopaganda you are borderline mentally dysfunctional Bando. Just STFU.
Explain to me why you think I’m wrong. I’m not saying 4.0 hasn’t been really solid at times, but I’m saying that the highs were higher in 2017-2019 (despite the lows) than 2021-2024. And 2022-2023 are not very good years of Phish.
@bandino.bsky.social I complete 💯 disagree. It’s honestly not close. Trey is playing way better and in general tempos are higher than that era. But continue to bang your drum
Ban-tardo.
I’m purely talking elite memorable jams. Not how tight the band is or tempos or any of that. I’d rather listen to Baker’s Simple/Chocdust, or MSG 2019 Tweezer or 2018 SanFran Carini, or anything from 12-30-18, or Vegas Golden Age, etc than almost anything 2021-2024
@bandino.bsky.social I’m at the show so I can’t talk about this anymore but there are several incredible jams including last night’s Carini.
@bandino.bsky.social last nights Carini and Chase 2021 blow away the 2018 BGCA Carini. It’s not close.
🤣 Yer at the show and arguing with me?? It really must not be very good. Carini last night was mid AF. Same with the Ruby Waves.
