the internet gave us access to everyone willing to claim anything (lots of it stupid that got ignored). that was mostly good because some things have never been given proper attention cause the old structures didn't favor them (see Chomsky). we mostly didn't fuck things up until corporate social media with algorithms and funded by ads showed up to spread stupidity that emotionally triggers us for profit.

@wjmaggos @Daojoan This is the important part. The internet has been remade to encourgage stupid + boost stupid. We had social media in the old internet going back to The Well + ICQ + chat rooms + web forums, it didn't get fully stupid until Arab Spring + Tea Party Movement + Occupy Wall Street revealed it's power & FB + everyone else right after monetized it & added their algorithums. That said, we never had a thing like TikTok then, which creates a very aggressive onset type of brain rot.
