UPDATE: A massive thanks to everyone who helped out with this ☺️

As a result, my little single-user instance has made contact with 11,274 other instances across the Fedi 😲

So no further boosts needed, really appreciate everyone who helped out 😁

How come?

I recently moved across to my own self-hosted single-user server (using GoToSocial.org). For a bunch of reasons, including visibility across the Fedi, it would really help out.

@aj it feels great to self host and be in charge of your data.
@iamemmajoy It's part of a bigger project for me if moving off big tech, embracing FOSS, and self-hosting where I can...
@aj I've been moving that way also. The only thing I'm not self hosting is email because that was excruciatingly frustrating last time I tried.
@iamemmajoy @aj yay so many selfhosters, love to see it!
I'm also wary of self-hosting email but recently did so for a non-profit that my friend is starting and between cPanel mailbox setup, RoundCube webmail, and properly configuring DNS (DMARC and DKIM) it's a lot easier than it used to be. Not sure if I'm brave enough to host it on a bare server without cPanel... yet!

@shom @aj mailcow is a great setup with docker containers.

The biggest issue I had was filtering out incoming spam. I could never get the filters right to mitigate the number of false positives and false negatives. I missed too many important emails from being too aggressive with filters.

@iamemmajoy Ugh yeah, spam! It's just email is so important that it's hard to want to take that risk. Might try learning more with a secondary domain. For now I use my own domain with protonmail.
