@b00tl00ps @nixCraft regarding proton, I was interested but got wary of their love of crypto and then bounced off when they got super horny for llms. Later got my bias confirmed with them peddling far right propaganda

On my phone I've been running lineage for quite a while and I'm happy with it, though really I want to go actual Linux at some point

@VileLasagna @b00tl00ps @nixCraft I am so happy to see someone else talk about them peddling far-right ideologies. I started to not like them because I feel like they've become too big for their own good. I also feel like they over represent the value of being based in Switzerland.

But I didn't feel that bad jumping ship on Proton when I found out that their CEO supports Trump. If I'm already going to go out of my way to use services like Proton, I'm not going to put up with them being evil.

@wolf8428 @b00tl00ps

Yeah, when that came along I was already on "do not engage" but my first political warning sign with them was regarding their election freedom promotional stunt thingie where they offered a few days of free services around elections for countries with "compromised democracies" and their source is just a right wing think tank with all of the usual red flags you'd expect from a right wing weirdos assessing "political freedom" of different countries

@VileLasagna @b00tl00ps I feel like they could have been so good if they would have stayed politically neutral and focused on a very small subset of products.

I think them having a VPN exposes a lot of customer data because it means that you're giving them your real IP address. So that's why I use a VPN that's not connected to anything else or any PII.

@wolf8428 @b00tl00ps Yeah, seeing a company trying to sell me a VPN while getting turbo-horny about "the inevitability of AI" had the dogs howling down the whole street

@VileLasagna @b00tl00ps The kind of annoying thing is that of the VPNs I've used, their VPN works way too well. Like, their app interface on Android and Windows has come a long way within the past year. The "secure core" is technically actually a pretty cool thing and works pretty well.

Basically, I wish their products didn't work so well for being a company that I strongly disagree with. Because, like, Google products kind of suck.
