In case you forgot about Microsoft Recall, it looks like it will reappear in your Copilot+ computer soon running Windows 11.

I am sure you are all thrilled with the idea of a screenshot being taken of your screen every 3 seconds, right?

That groan you hear is users’ reaction to Recall going back into Windows

Snapshotting and AI processing a screen every 3 seconds. What could possibly go wrong?

@jon I truly think, now is the time for people to consider, Linux.

Do not wait until Windows 10 support ends. -- Why?

Any life choices work best when you do things in your own time on your schedule without any pressure. People who wait until Windows 10 support ends, will feel rushed, make quick and poor choices, get frustrated, likely learn nothing, and hop right back onto Windows.

It is best if people try Linux, when they have all the time in the world, and do not feel rushed or pressured. They can make better informed choices that way.

@jon

There are many other choices to this Corporate Collators Control Program nonsense.

Why ?

Why ... Pay good money to have some rich twats steal your hardware and mental space ?

@jon The upcoming anniversary of the launch of Recall weirdly correlates with the anniversary of me finally making the switch to linux

@jon I'll just leave this here https://github.com/Raphire/Win11Debloat. I run it after every update now while I plan my move off Microsoft.

Shout out to @EndeavourOS whom I've been enjoying on my other machines.

GitHub - Raphire/Win11Debloat: A simple, lightweight PowerShell script that allows you to remove pre-installed apps, disable telemetry, as well as perform various other changes to declutter and customize your Windows experience. Win11Debloat works for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

I've seen more and more, for lack of a better word, Windows "distros" pop up recently. Where they're Windows install media that comes pre-altered so they don't have the telemetry and don't try to re-install it later.

And if you're still a Windows user at this point, you absolutely should be running some kind of script to disable that stuff.

@rastilin @jon @EndeavourOS I think where I'm headed is running it sandboxed in a VM for things that are essential. With that being said I think a "distro" as you describe it might be the way to go instead of trying to shoehorn in an official image.
@jon Who EVER asked for this? Who? But the shit we actually ask for takes years to be added or even never.

@rejzor @jon
While on Linux… There are so many distros, you can choose the one that best fits you, without all that tracking you get from Micro$oft.

@jon
Sadly, even switching to Linux won’t protect you from the privacy-busting implications of interacting with other people who have Windows machines with Recall enabled. Microsoft are not just compromising their own ecosystem, they are compromising the security of the entire Internet.
@KimSJ @jon They did that already by facilitating all those botnets exploiting Windows' lousy security. But yes...

@jon

"You are always in control."

The systems industry's all-time biggest lie.

Also typically the first unintentional signal you're not the least in control.

Because when a giant tech company tells you this, it unpacks as follows:

"We're in control of this of this thing, not you. All we're doing is giving you a UI switch we can pull back anytime. We/our people may or may not abuse it. But we're on your/our side. Trust us. And just click 'Yes' to our limited liability..."

@jon THIS is the time to move to Linux! You have so many options, some are even very similar to Windows's GUI. And, I think you won't miss the tracking, or will you?

@jon Not my screen, cuz I'm not running Windoge 11, but anyone who is, and looks at my posts for 3 seconds gets me collected. My current cunning strategy is to never write anything worth looking at for more than three seconds.
@jon MS be like: hold my🍺, 🔥  🔥 and release the 🐙 at the same time 😲
