@nocontexttrek In the Cards, great episode
@nocontexttrek Oh there's plenty of context here!!!
@nocontexttrek Me too, Jake. Me too.
@katieashborn @nocontexttrek I wish we didn't have any money in the way Jake doesn't have any money, instead of the way that hurts 😭
@nocontexttrek This is the future they promised us.
@nocontexttrek @rasterweb Last episode of TAS that I watched had a character who had "used his vast personal fortune" to do great good. I kept yelling at the TV “fortuine? There's no money!”

@fozztexx
Once again it turns out it is hard to really imagine the end of capitalism.

@nocontexttrek @rasterweb

@fozztexx @rasterweb @nocontexttrek I'm pretty sure money is abolished between TOS and TNG

most people seem to care about money in TOS but say it's gone in TNG, but like Vash exists and feels like one of the Ols School humans who still wishes money was real, so it's not centuries gone

@fozztexx Star Trek's always been a little squishy on the concept of money. It doesn't exist... except when it does.
@nocontexttrek Sadly, the different Star Trek series have been wildly inconsistent on this point. The series Picard established that there was still significant wealth inequality on Earth, as Raffi pointed out when Picard found her living in a shack, and there are a lot of references to Picard's personal wealth and his financing things.
@foolishowl @nocontexttrek Wouldn't that completely contradict some of the dialogue in First Contact?
@nocontexttrek Jake is also a writer, so that's a double "doesn't have money" for him.
