If you use FastMail and all your email silently stopped working across every single one of your devices today, you need to update your imap/smtp settings to these servers and generate app-specific passwords for every account, as described here:

https://www.fastmail.help/hc/en-us/articles/1500000278342-Server-names-and-ports

You can at least use the same app-specific password across multiple devices.

Ask me how I know…

Server names and ports

These are the standard server name and port details for setting up access to email, contacts and files for your Fastmail account.You will need to get an app password to connect to these servers. Yo...

@jamesthomson Ask THEM why they implemented this!! ARGH! I hate this!!!
@jamesthomson After creating an app specific password, there’s a link to an Apple profile it creates which works on both iOS and Mac and lets you do one click setup of mail. It works well, I recommend it.
@jamesthomson hasn’t this been the case for years?
@jsgreen The old way worked until this morning!
@jamesthomson Hm, “IMAP over POP” — that’s … novel.
@jlundell @jamesthomson Haha, that’s a hilariously nebulous way to write “IMAP *instead of* POP”. Great call out. It took me several sentence reads to get what they meant.
@jamesthomson I am still using the old mail.messagingengine.com addresses, which still seem to work for my account. I think without app specific passwords. These transfered over from phone to phone over the course of years. Maybe I should switch to the app specific passwords.
@rjschutten I was too, and all my accounts just stopped yesterday. Might have been a glitch, but updating worked.
@jamesthomson This was a bug specifically impacting people using very specific legacy server and port settings. It has since been fixed. Sorry this caused problems for you. If you let us know when you run into issues like this, we're happy to look into it: [email protected].
