#Sustainability in software means continuous adaptation.

Unlike physical products (think Rams’ 606 shelving system), software exists in a constantly shifting environment. Every OS update brings potential incompatibilities. (1/3)

My answer: Keep evolving. Just today, I shipped updates for ten of my apps, including one with a decade-old codebase. Because when you buy an app, it should stay useful as long as possible—just like a well-made physical product. (2/3)
Here’s the catch: This kind of commitment is only possible when software is valued. So support your local indie dev! 🤍 (3/3)

@martinlexow @isaiah The comparison to a physical product seems a bit flawed to me; the OS for reality doesn’t have annual updates that require the manufacturer of my armchair to provide updates to keep it working. 😁

That said, huge props to you for making that investment of time. I’d sure favor your apps with that level of commitment!

@SeanMcTex @martinlexow
i must admit i’m not a huge fan of the relentless app update cycle (though my views are probably just old man yells at cloud stuff 😂).
i mean, do i really need another 250MB update to Netflix every 5 days?

but i can overlook my quibbles because i am a big fan of indie software, of keeping software going over the long haul (and charging a fair price for that work).

and updating 10 indie apps is definitely a commitment worth celebrating! i mean wow!!!
