@jeffowski also don't discuss #disinfo, just clearly reply:

"No, and you know it's not true!"

everytime you have some person doing that before using any meams necessary to yeet them off platform * convo!

@kkarhan @jeffowski

That'll just cause them to respond with an accusation that you're hiding the truth.

From experience what works way better is to just counter like back then in school with an insult of some sorts.

"Your mom rewrites DNA. Fuck off" or
"yea, to prevent another idiot like you from being born."

Edit: Or outcrazy, but I don't know how to do that in this case.

@agowa338 @jeffowski no.

Any engagement is boosting them.

@kkarhan @jeffowski

It depends. Online in algo based social media I agree. In group chats (club/town/whatever) I don't.

Also Block and Report doesn't work on most social media. The only one that won't see it then is you. Everyone else can still see it as almost always the decision is "we couldn't find anything wrong" regardless of content (except nudity, because US)

@agowa338 @jeffowski in group chats I throw them out with message "stop smoking tinfoil!"...
@kkarhan @jeffowski
But thereby you're doing exactly as I said...

@jeffowski @agowa338 @kkarhan In a slight variation, you call them on their bull***t by saying something equally ridiculous, like “the first vaccine rewrote my DNA, this one is just an update”, but with a straight face.

Did it a few times… they get confused thinking either “that doesn’t sound right” (I should rethink it) or “are you making fun of me” (I should think why).

Fully agree on not engaging in any meaningful way.

@jeffowski And then sometimes there is another idiot that thinks "but actually why not?" and will spend the next decade on trying to innovate to the point that that formerly dumb claim becomes true...
@jeffowski maybe stop being so charitable to stupid people? You're not going to change everyone's mind. You live in a world where people think there is an invisible man.... soooo....

@jeffowski This kind of communication misses two points:

  • people share disinformation because they're trying to solve problems, but these problems aren't addressed, so it's just a condescending message, and
  • social media literally suck, it takes a 2-hours act of sublimation and 10 basic sociological references to figure this out, but it's bragging about “15 academic references” (gosh). Thus it gaslights people into suppressing the expression of their own needs… which is the root of the problem.
  • @jeffowski I don't see any misinformation in the left panel. He might actually read this. Who cares? Why would anyone give an answer to this at all?

    @arti --

    You're the prime example of this meme. Thank you for outing yourself.

    Google, "Debunk Vaccines rewrite your DNA"

    It is amazing that you posted this without checking it first.
