Time for some adorableness. πŸ₯° 😘

This is a piping plover on the beach standing guard over her two chicks. They are TINY.

Edit: I am informed by @Avloky that she is being a "Mombrella," shielding her babies from the sun and other weather. A perfect description! πŸ–οΈ

@Soror_Peregrina
That's called a "Mombrella". It's good for both rain and sun!

@Avloky

Well, that is the cutest "Mombrella" I can imagine. 😁 😘 ⛱️

@Soror_Peregrina the only similar thing i know is when anxious dogs stand between your legs like this to feel protected and that's the best! ☺️ @Avloky
@Soror_Peregrina @gannet @Avloky Little fuzzy golf balls with legs.
To protect them from predators, mom likes to hide the eggs and chicks in indentations in the sand near the beach.
This works great for predators. Not so great when the indentations are tire tracks.

@Soror_Peregrina @gannet @Avloky In perfect timing, I just checked FB and an hour ago someone in a group I'm in had just posted this:

Please pass the word.
Plovers are on the ground! The speed limit will be reduced on April 1, 2025, to 5 mph. Please comply!

The group is for people who have homes in a location that's accessible only via boat, a six mile trail at low tide, or six miles along the beach...where the plovers nest.

@nazgul @gannet @Avloky

Boosted so people will know! πŸ₯° 😘

@Soror_Peregrina why are you so perfect and round?
