In an address to Congress this month, President Trump claimed he had "brought free speech back to America." But barely two months into his second term, the president has waged an unprecedented attack on the First Amendment rights of journalists, students, universities, government workers, lawyers and judges.

This story explores a slew of recent actions by the Trump administration that threaten to undermine all five pillars of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees freedoms concerning speech, religion, the media, the right to assembly, and the right to petition the government and seek redress for wrongs.

Great story in my local newspaper today about nearby Congressman (R) complaining to the newspaper for publishing images of a Tesla Takedown protest because they were "providing a platform to 'dangerous extremists.'"

"Langworthy specifically took issue with photos published in The News from Saturday’s protest outside Tesla on South Park Avenue, which included people holding signs critical of Tesla’s billionaire CEO Elon Musk because of his drastic cost-cutting measures as the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency."

The vast majority of the protesters were white, middle-class people in their 50s and 60s.

@briankrebs By "free speech" #Trump and his minions mean being allowed to oppress minorities without consequences.

It's pretty obvious. They even told us in Europe that we don't have "free speech" because we don't allow hate speech.

They don't even realize it's all wicked.

@nakal @briankrebs As per SCOTUS, hate speech is actually protected under our first amendment, so these loons are just mad for no reason. Under the first amendment, they can be hateful all they want, they just can't directly threaten or injure through lying/defaming.

Since the beginning of this insanity, their intention was to trample all over our civil liberties so they could be supreme leader. They just sold the big lie that white people were losing their right to free speech.

@briankrebs Free speech in the US? That went out the window when Trump and his Nazi mates came into power. It is now almost on a par with Russia and China where free speech is non-existent.

They're executing lives
Eliminating people's liberty
And halted the pursuit of happiness

Also here's some other amendment rights eroding, with examples:
4: see ICE hunting people without a warrant
5: see ICE arresting citizens, both born domestically and also naturalized
8: ICE detaining people for over a year
