Stubsack: weekly thread for sneers not worth an entire post, week ending 30th March 2025 - awful.systems

Need to let loose a primal scream without collecting footnotes first? Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid: Welcome to the Stubsack, your first port of call for learning fresh Awful you’ll near-instantly regret. Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no. If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cut’n’paste it into its own post — there’s no quota for posting and the bar really isn’t that high. > The post Xitter web has spawned soo many “esoteric” right wing freaks, but there’s no appropriate sneer-space for them. I’m talking redscare-ish, reality challenged “culture critics” who write about everything but understand nothing. I’m talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. They’re inescapable at this point, yet I don’t see them mocked (as much as they should be) > > Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldn’t be surgeons because they didn’t believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I can’t escape them, I would love to sneer at them. (Credit and/or blame to David Gerard for starting this.)

Stackslobber posts evidence that transhumanism is a literal cult, HN crowd is not having it

The Tranhumanist Cult Test | Hacker News

In my head transhumanism is this cool idea where I’d get to have a zoom function in my eye

But of course none of that could exist in our capitalist hellscape because of just all the reasons the ruling class would use it to opress the working class.

And then you find out what transhumanists actually advocate for and it’s just eugenics. Like without even a tiny bit of plausible deniability. They’re proud it’s eugenics.

@V0ldek @gerikson This "transhimanist" craze happened after I left the country 35 years ago, so please take this as the voice of sanity. When I hear this word, I think of the Borg. I also think of Jeri Ryan"a life experience, I'm not sure why.
@fgbjr @V0ldek @gerikson A reminder that casting Jeri Ryan could be seen, if you squint, as leading to the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. https://redshirtsalwaysdie.com/posts/voyager-kicked-off-a-butterfly-effect-that-ended-with-obama-becoming-president-01hn8tvncaya
Voyager kicked off a butterfly effect that ended with Obama becoming president

Star Trek: Voyager's retooling that brought in reformed Borg drone Seven of Nine was the first first link in a chain reaction that ended with the election of Barack Obama. The global political landscape is truly governed by chaos.
