The value of generative AI can best be understood by our negotiation with Microsoft for our E5 license.

It's cheaper if we “take" Copilot than if we don’t.

That's some quality work right there.

@petrillic
They are soooo hoping we find copilot addictive. The first hit is free.
@ThreeSigma @petrillic it's more about access to training data.
@gsuberland @ThreeSigma @petrillic Or, as i like to call it, industrial espionage.
@gsuberland @petrillic
You sure? The total text available through the corporate account pales in comparison to what they trained on.
Meanwhile, they are utterly committed to their bet that AI will be super profitable.
@petrillic They know that they can raise the price later if they can get past the objections of people who know better, and get the average user hooked.
@sindarina @petrillic Same as with free Windows, Office etc. licences to students.
@petrillic Sounds like extortion to me: Pay extra to avoid the malware.
@petrillic Ah yes. I remember those days of the "Microsoft Tax" when PC OEMs were forced to charge users for the cost of Widows, even if they were ordering the computer without an OS.
@petrillic
That sounds like Copilot is being forced in under duress.
Why is that thing leading to a discount? Because Microsoft can then glean your info to their hearts' content and share it with the NSA?
@petrillic Has anyone found a group policy that turns it off again for an entire organization?
@petrillic That tells you that there is indeed a heavy price to pay for Copilot, and that it's not a directly numerical one.
