Folks writing "he or she" instead of "they" are whistling to their dog.

@larsmb ... Nah. Many just learned English in the 90ies, and find it hard to the change what they learned there.
@ysegrim this is, what I observe too… they just don’t know it better and actually *want* to be gender-sensitive. My perception: at least they try… @larsmb
@larsmb just as much a dog whistle as the "Dear Sir/Madam" or "Dear Mr/Ms/Mrs name" on official correspondence...
