Hey OpenAI, you don’t like intellectual-property theft? That’s cute https://on.wsj.com/3Q02iyo

@nixCraft @padraig And wsj too? That's amazing.
@nixCraft also remember that only output of actual Homo sapiens is covered by copyright law (not even selfies by other apes are).
So no matter what DeepSeek's devs did, it's legally impossible for OpenAI to claim theft from, e.g., chatGPT.
@nixCraft I believe this is a diversion. It draws attention away from the main aspect, which is that deepseek results were obtained at a fraction of the cost and with old GPUs. Hard to justify the half-billion that was more or less on the table.
@N0tSure @nixCraft yeah, there's no proof I've seen that they did anything other than innovate, MS and openai are just desperate to claim this couldn't have been achieved without their input in some fashion.

@nixCraft "you can't prove anything / but one thing is true / if you can steal from me / I can steal from you"

-- Todd Snider, "If Tomorrow Never Comes"

Todd wrote/titled his song "If Tomorrow Never Comes" partly in response to having his song "Beer Run" stolen by the person who wrote "If Tomorrow Never Comes" (the Garth Brooks hit).
