In the color picker pane, having the current and previous colour next to each other would make a huge difference.
For instance, when you're trying to match values on different hues or making any subtle change, this feature saves A Lot of time
(If the problem is lack of space on the pane, Krita solves it with floating temporary squares)

As for your suggestion, it does sound useful to have indeed. Krita's solution is interesting, we could implement something like that.
