I had to replace an iPad, and there really isn't anything in the lineup for me. I need a great screen with the an efficient processor and great battery life for around $600. There is no other criteria that matter. Performance does not matter.
– Base iPad – no laminated screen is a no-go
– iPad Air – good screen, but not great. M3 _branding_ for CPU only hurts – I don't want a "laptop" chip in my mobile device.
– iPad Pro – too expensive to toss around and use in the kitchen, out of question.
@a_grebenyuk I'm in the same boat. Every time I go to look for an iPad and think the Base is ok, I see the "faster" M3 sitting next to it. Once I move over to look at M3, I see the Pro sitting next to that one with a better screen. The differentiation seems discouraging at this point.
@armengrewal it ignores what most people need these devices for, and the fact that the post-PC world is over and the multi-device ecosystem is in. I don't get why Apple even attempted to cannibalize the Mac. Jobs introduced iPad as a "third category of device in the middle".
@a_grebenyuk I kind of feel the same way. An iPad with ProMotion, Face ID, and an A series CPU is what I want.
@ddribeiro Face ID is optional for me. I set it to require passcode only after a set amount of time.

@a_grebenyuk may it be previous gen pro? I still don’t get that camera bump, otherwise great. Ah, and no audio jack )

Maybe look into refurbished. And latest mini (display is fine, but not great)

@gelosi only the latest model has Tandem OLED 😔
120hz is low priority for me.
@a_grebenyuk well, if you into oled ipad — yeah, then there’s only one option now; just get it 😅
@gelosi I'm too frugal for this, especially knowing I don't need anything else of what it offers and what I would be paying for.
