I think they believe they can shape physical reality by controlling how it is reported.

I'm not joking, I think they literally believe that reality is created by being reported a certain way:

This is conservatism at its very core; we are going to keep applying the failed solutions of the past despite humanity's understanding of reality moving forward without us, we will do this until we are so undeniably desynced from reality that we need fascism to enforce our worldview on others

That's really all conservatism is, a commitment to solutions that have failed. It's not a balance on a political spectrum, it's an excuse not to change or think that becomes malignant
