Tariffs and bans are policies of fear. They happen when we are scared that another country’s innovation has surpassed our own.

The best response to competition? Investing in your own science, technology, and education. That’s true courage.

Tariffs can be a reasonable economic policy to encourage self reliance. In some developing countries, I could see why people support economically nationalist policies like that.

However, this policy is a bad fit for the United States of America.

@luckytran One thing that stands out to me with the TikTok ban scenarios is that for all their claims about other countries and the safety of using their app, but Obama was pretty adamant about using his BlackBerry phone...despite it being a phone manufactured by a Canadian owned company.
@luckytran Trump wants to invest in 19th century tech to compete with BRICS. I'm not an economic expert but the US will be supplying cheap labor for Brazil, China and India if the fascists aren't eliminated
@luckytran Bans should really only be used for products that are directly dangerous. Any other reason I can come up with is out of ignorance.

@luckytran

Tariffs are trump admitting that he believes America can’t compete with the rest of the world. Ironically, tariffs make America even less competitive than before.
