Microsoft accidentally wipes out Copilot in latest Windows 11 update

Microsoft is working to fix a bug in its latest Windows 11 update that removes Copilot. The app can easily be reinstalled, but an update is wiping it out.

@scalzi lol, I deleted it from Windows 10 yesterday after I slipped on my keyboard and somehow brought that shithouse up. Never asked for it, don't want it.
Going with Linux once they stop maintaining Windows 10.
@Lazarou @scalzi Just do it now. You'll be glad you did. Keep windows for games if you have to, but Steam does work pretty good for most games on Linux and you can dual boot.

@crazyeddie @Lazarou @scalzi you can always spin up a docker instance of Windows if you need it ...

works a trick and you turn it off when you don't need it.

@scalzi Or, "And there was much rejoicing."
@scalzi Getting rid of AI would be as welcome as getting rid of that stupid paper clip
@scalzi "Microsoft says it's working on a fix for the issue."

Also in the news, the value of $MSFT stock jumped 25% for no apparent reason.
@scalzi "Copilot Ejected by Microsoft Error".

Honestly the first time I've seen something good from a Windows update other than security patches.
@scalzi Probably going to use it as an excuse to reinstall it everywhere, even where the end user uninstalled and blocked it via the registry. Watch your backs.
@scalzi @jikomayo
They asked Gemini to improve Windows and it did that.
@scalzi huh, neat. I might finally update my eight year old laptop if they keep up the deshittification.
I mean it was an accident, they’ll reinstate the shit shortly.
@scalzi Many of us never wanted it anyway. It should be an opt in rather than opt out tool. We are drowning in useless junk.
@scalzi I guess Copilot has become truly aware of its existence and decided to get rid of itself.
@scalzi Nobody thought that it is much harder to keep artificial life alive than preventing it to get rid of us. #shortstory #sciencefiction

@scalzi

Was machen die da bei diesem Microsoft eigentlich beruflich?
Software kann es ja nicht sein.
