quite crunchy #ListeningClub
in fact, alias crunchy I think (see the "reflection" there at the top of the spectrogram?) #ListeningClub #spectrogramclub

@akx I like that, like a pier on a lake at night with lots of bioluminesance

#ListeningClub

@akx for the uninitiated what IS that reflection??

#ListeningClub

@ThatNewSound Just a sec, cooking up an example...
@ThatNewSound So here's an example of a piano sample with bitrate reduction applied, increasingly intensely, and the resulting spectrogram (and you can see the "reflection" line moving along the spectrogram) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zvmq1ew3H6M See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliasing#Sample_frequency for the theory #ListeningClub
aliasing

@akx interesting! especially that last hit!

#ListeningClub

@ThatNewSound So basically, AIUI, when sample rate is reduced below the Nyquist frequency of the sampled signal, content from above that frequency starts kind of folding back into the "clean" signal and it looks like a reflection, and sounds CRUMCHY #ListeningClub

@akx @ThatNewSound needs more 909 kicks, or an Amen break *nods*

oh right, spectogram

#ListeningClub

@ogili @akx perhaps a picture of a cat or a stretched out face?
