oh, you're a computer expert? then why are all your devices broken in weird ways?
@pierogiburo that's the mark of an expert!
@len @pierogiburo it is, in fact, because I broke them like that and got distracted before fixing it in an even worse way
@pierogiburo that's just part of the experience lol
@pierogiburo my linux server had two network managers installed for 2 years šŸ’€

It worked, though!
@pierogiburo @grrrr_shark can you please stop calling me out for, like, one minute, I’m very tired
@pierogiburo because if they were broken in normal ways i could fix them
@pierogiburo that's exactly why
@pierogiburo We can use them to the fullest extend in the most exotic ways in the rarest fringe of setups.
@pierogiburo they're always broken in new and exciting ways
@pierogiburo Because an expert breaks things expertly. We strive for excellence.

@pierogiburo

A mere "user" will simply do what the machine allows.

An "expert" finds the limits of what is allowed and then asks "how about I try..."

What's the worst that can happen, right?šŸ’„

@pierogiburo that's how you become a computer expert. You break stuff in weird ways then figure out how to fix them.
@pierogiburo I would argue a computer expert has enough sense to deny any knowledge of computers or expertise therein.
@pierogiburo Weird is a relative term. How was I supposed to know "energy drinks" aren't suitable for liquid cooling?
@pierogiburo They may be broken but observe: they are still in use.

@pierogiburo because I stretch the definition of 'a working device' to places angels fear to tread

Like dumpsters.

@pierogiburo Because technology hates you personally
@pierogiburo Oh, you're a car mechanic? then why are all your cars broken in weird ways?
@lanodan @pierogiburo dankpods (although that's, i assume, some aussie curse)
@ozzelot @pierogiburo dank?
I though Australia was pretty dry?
@lanodan @pierogiburo It is, but for that, one person must be dank at all times.
@pierogiburo theyā€˜re not broken, theyā€˜re a diverse & healthy ecosystem, and i enjoy caring for them
@pierogiburo Because I know these exact ways and how to work around them should they be an issue.

@pierogiburo

...is the new "then why can't you fix my microwave oven?"

@pierogiburo "en casa de herrero, cuchillo de palo". Something like "the cobbler's children have the worse shoes", I think it is.

@pierogiburo

They're not broken, they're traumatized.

@pierogiburo "mY cOmPutEr diD SoMeThiNg WeIRd wHeN i CliCkEd tHiS"
@sodiboo @pierogiburo to be fair, I'm good with hardware and have working computers... but I'm learning more and more software, and discovering that yes, there are novel ways to make a computer not work anymore using said software.. especially when trying to remove spy and bloatware installed on MS based systems... gah.. edge is stealing usage data and sending it to ms, "copilot" is stealing data and sending it to ms... windows itself is stealing data and sending it to ms.. and what options do you have to stop it? turn off anonymous usage data sharing? thats fine, ok, you turned off the one in the core of windows.. doesnt stop edge or copilot, because "that data is used to improve how these offered 'addons' work"

@sodiboo @pierogiburo @emilvolk don't they say the same thing about an auto mechanic's car?

Or an electrician's own electrical panel at home?

@colinstu @pierogiburo @emilvolk I believe this generalizes to any profession actually. in Swedish, there is an idiom that goes something like "skomakarens barn gƄr barfota"; the shoemaker's children go barefoot
the shoemaker's children go barefoot - Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Wiktionary
@colinstu @pierogiburo @emilvolk oh how delightful it is not just a swedish idiom PROVERB but an internationally recognized one!
@pierogiburo they are broken in new, innovative ways.
@pierogiburo because the alternative is that they're broken in conventional ways, which is worse and probably has more ads
@pierogiburo
Don't drive a mechanics car.
@pierogiburo thats how you know we are experts, we cant fix our own shit but we do others lol
@pierogiburo like owner like owned

-carrie
@pierogiburo do as I say not as I do. šŸ˜‚
@pierogiburo I sit them in a circle like dolls and have tea parties with them
@pierogiburo That's because we keep them working despite them being broken in weird way!
@pierogiburo
Because my skillset allows me to fuck stuff up in new, unique, creative, and neverbeforeseen ways that even I don't want to or can't fix :3
