So the GIMP team has put out this post but has anyone been able to actually download GIMP 3.0? When I go to the Downloads page I only see the RC3 which was announced last month in a different post. "GIMP 3.0 Released" by @GIMP

@mastazi Hi! We didn't release GIMP 3 yet and never published a news (your link is 404).

At some point, we saw some people spreading some other news from our *testing* website (where we publish work-in-progress drafts and where we test website updates). Maybe that's what you saw?
