True story time, from about 8 years ago.

After work, I joined few co-workers for happy hour. I had 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks, then cut myself off and drank soda rest of the night, for many reasons including I wanted to be 100% sober to drive home.

One guy was rude, insisted I keep drinking, said I was ruining the fun.

Kids, be your own person. Be stubborn. Don't let someone pressure you into doing something you don't want to do. No means no.

Everyone else was fine with me not drinking alcohol.

After I insisted on saying no, rude guy fetched next round of drinks. My "soda" was in short glass. Quick whiff confirmed it was soda with liquor. I declared what it was, said I wouldn't drink it, & offered it to anyone else at the table.

He became a total ass when I did that. He lied saying there's no alcohol in it. Kept trying to shove drink in my hand and insist I drink it. Called me a pussy. I excused myself and left.

Next morning, one person in the group, "Bob", had a black eye!!!

Bob said after I left, the group quickly dwindled until it was just Bob & rude guy. Bob finished his drink & left. Rude guy followed him and tried to convince him to go to another bar. When Bob insisted on going home, rude guy punched him & ran away.

I offered to go to HR together to report rude guy, but Bob didn't want to. I didn't like it but respected his choice. We stopped associating with rude guy.

Yeah, those are the sort of people you are best staying away from, even if it means ending a night early.

Women are usually more keenly aware of this sort of behavior for obvious (survival) reasons, but it doesn't matter who you are: someone who acts that way is not safe and cannot be trusted.

@artemis You are right on. Be sure to read all the way to part #3 for the "surprise" ending. And to be 100% clear, I was extremely uncomfortable having that guy in the same office. I felt like having him around was a danger to everyone. A "broken stair" before I'd even heard the term broken stair.
