Found Dog! Please come and get it. Or adopt it. Please...!
I've been wanting to make this poster for a while. I just need a phone number to put on it. I was thinking of putting mine on there just to see who called and if anyone would either play along or think it was sincere. I could have some fun.
"Hello. Wut...? Your name is Evelina? Oh, hi Evelina, is this your dog? Oh, you mean your dog is named Evelina? Can you come get Evelina, please?" etc.
Or maybe I could put the local cop shop number on it.
What prompted this was that a whole pack of them got in the neighbor's gate and tore bags and bags of trash to shreds. Plus, somehow they got the house door open and went inside. The place has been abandoned for two years after the owner died. The relatives have been cleaning it up, but apparently aren't from here and didn't realize that you can't leave bags of trash outside and the gate open. Oops. The javelina pack has been in there every night.
They're actually comically weird and fun to watch, so long as they don't get in my yard.
Arizona Trash Pandas in action. I just learned that they are also very appropriately called Skunk Pigs due to their smell. And that a group of them is called a "squadron."
I can never tell whether this behavior is curiosity or aggression or maybe just hoping I'll have some food for it.
Protip: if you're ever worried about javelinas being aggressive, make a "rock throwing" motion with your arm. They immediately recognize that and will run.
Yeah, it really did seem more like the way a tame animal might approach someone for food. I wouldn't be at all surprised if people feed them here. The lack of rain has meant no native vegetation for them to eat, so they're probably particularly hungry this year.
