This... is not what I expected.

Since the can said “unfiltered rice beer” I was expecting something like a rice lager. Imagine a dry nigori sake crossed with horchatta crossed with seltzer. Very carbonated with a real bite up front, but smooth on the tongue, lightly sweet up front but dry in the finish, and lots of creamy grain-flavored foam. I think I like it, although it cries out for pairing with something. Maybe a hot and spicy bulgogi?

@enog I believe #Makgeolli is technically a #Beer, but in the same sense that sake is a beer. (Both are brewed.) It's much more sake-like than European beer-like. The han name is 濁酒.

It reminds me of a sparkling sake I tried during my visit to a sake brewery. I can't recall the details exactly, but it wasn't the final product, more like something still in the making, and it tasted great 😊
