One thing about the design of the Edixa-Flex (should that be hyphenated? I still can't make my mind up) - https://mastodon.social/@coldkennels/114065455146307345 - is that the combination of waist level finder and front-mounted shutter release actually works in its favour for stability.

This was shot at 1/25 with a 50mm lens; I wouldn't even consider that with a regular SLR, but this is surprisingly shake-free.

@[email protected] I have the soft-release for the Nikon F and when I use the waist-level finder I often trigger it with my thumb instead. Also seems more stable (and comfortable) that way.

But yeah, front-release is pretty cool.

@knapjack I think the real key is the direction of travel - I had an Exakta RTL 1000 for a bit (basically a Praktica with an Exakta mount and an interchangeable viewfinder), and because that front release needed to be pushed downwards, it wasn't really an improvement over a regular one. But the Edixa has a front release you push into the body, like a typical TLR; that really seems to help keep everything stable.
