The other 2 are explicitly communist but Iâd never assume a lemmy.ml user is a tankie.
People who chose the thing run by the people who make the thing gang rise up
âthat assholeâ has been working below minimum wage, one unexpected financial burden away from homelessness, for the last four years to bring you Lemmy for free
What Iâm saying is even if you disagree with his views, on the things that actually impact you, heâs been a great positive in your life
Here you go. FYI his reddit name was parentis_shotgun
Do you have reading comprehension issues? He doesnât deny it happened in that comment, he calls it a US-backed color revolution.
Calling the entire protest a color revolution is a matter of opinion, but it is an undeniable fact that many of the most high-profile protest leaders were US-backed.
Dessalines, right? I happen upon a lot of his Github issue threads on libraries that i use, which i think is interesting when i recognize the account. He seems normal there.
Other than that, looking at his Lemmy profile, it seems he gets into a lot of political arguments on subjects that i donât know much about - i canât tell if heâs unjustly hateful towards any group. I have heard he bans people a lot over these disagreements, which isnât cool so i think your sentiment is fair.
Currently my only issue with .ml is the profanity filter but i donât know anything about the other instances either. I imagine this conversation has been had a lot already but if iâm on Lemmy either way, whatâs the difference in terms of support? If heâs a dick, iâd probably rather just switch to Kbin or PieFed

Oh no, heâs on the floor!â [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBeU7o6DODI] Welcome to MoG! â Meanwhile On Grad â Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome! â What is a Tankie [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankie]? â Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies. [https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/ziq-tankies-and-the-left-unity-scam] - (caution of biased source) â Basic Rules: Sh.itjust.works [https://sh.itjust.works/] Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. â Basically, donât be a dick. Hate-Speech â You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech. Apologia â (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether it be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology. Revisionism â No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism. Off-topic Discussion â Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement. Brigading/Trolling â If youâre here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned. Good-faith and honest communication is an exception. Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban. Youâll be warned if youâre violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time. â
I feel like we need to talk about Lemmyâs massive tankie censorship problem. A lot of popular lemmy communities are hosted on lemmy.ml [http://lemmy.ml]. Itâs been well known for a while that the admins/mods of that instance have, letâs say, rather extremist and onesided political views. In short, theyâre whatâs colloquially referred to as tankies. This wouldnât be much of an issue if they didnât regularly abuse their admin/mod status to censor and silence people who dissent with their political beliefs and for example, post things critical of China, Russia, the USSR, socialism, ⊠As an example, there was a thread today about the anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre. When I was reading it, there were mostly posts critical of China in the thread and some whataboutist/denialist replies critical of the USA and the west. In terms of votes, the posts critical of China were definitely getting the most support. I posted a comment in this thread linking to âhttps://archive.ph/2020.07.12-074312/https://imgur.com/a/AIIbbPs [https://archive.ph/2020.07.12-074312/https://imgur.com/a/AIIbbPs]â (WARNING: graphical content), which describes aspects of the atrocities that arenât widely known even in the West, and supporting evidence. My comment was promptly removed for violating the âBe nice and civilâ rule. When I looked back at the thread, I noticed that all posts critical of China had been removed while the whataboutist and denialist comments were left in place. This is what the modlog [https://lemmy.ml/modlog] of the instance looks like: [https://feddit.nl/pictrs/image/6886b092-43d3-408b-ab57-2fa686f8a6c7.png] Definitely a trend there wouldnât you say? When I called them out on their one sided censorship, with a screenshot of the modlog above, I promptly received a community ban on all communities on lemmy.ml [http://lemmy.ml] that I had ever participated in. Proof: [https://feddit.nl/pictrs/image/9c52e470-645f-46ba-ac1d-0b7d8be17af3.png] So many of you will now probably think something like: âSo what, itâs the fediverse, you can use another instance.â The problem with this reasoning is that many of the popular communities are actually on lemmy.ml [http://lemmy.ml], and theyâre not so easy to replace. I mean, in terms of content and engagement lemmy is already a pretty small place as it is. So itâs rather pointless sitting for example in /c/ [/c/] where thereâs nobody to discuss anything with. Iâm not sure if thereâs a solution here, but Iâd like to urge people to avoid lemmy.ml [http://lemmy.ml] hosted communities in favor of communities on more reasonable instances.
The first removed comment shown in the post is someone falsely claiming that China has âconstant efforts to pretend it didnât happenâ
The linked imgur album is also full of outright disinformation about the incident.
