@[email protected] if only three GOP members in each chamber went independent to caucus with a Democratic majority, they could help with oversight and be heroes
Any Republican elected to federal office could win historic and durable acclimation if they stopped supporting this couptastrophe and caucused with Democrats to stop it
@petergleick they could have their pick of committees and the amount of money they would be able to fundraise would be incredible - whether they went independent or fully joined the Democratic Party I suspect if they held up their bargain they might get a lot of support from independent and democratic voters alike.
And making a Democratic speaker of the house would do an awful lot right now
@petergleick They could join Angus King (ME) and Bernie Sanders (VT) as independents and caucus with Dems or GOP on a bill by bill basis. They'd have even more power to get what they want.
But I suspect they are afraid Trump will sic his MAGA brownshirts on them, and they don't have the organizing skills to thwart that.
@Quantillion @petergleick Organizing skills, because the GOP is a party of authoritarian personalities and they wait to be told by an authority figure what to do. They hire organizers because they've never really learned how to do it themselves.
Only one of them needs to have balls — or the ovaries — to be the necessary authority figure, and their one maverick died a few years back. We probably wouldn't be in this mess if John McCain was still alive and in the Senate.
