I'm going to sound alarmist to my colleagues when I contend that: the US government has been compromised; the threat intelligence from them can't be trusted; and we (industries) are going to have to build our own intel apparatus to compensate.

But I'm pulling the alarm because I see the fire.

Wow the "You should never have trusted the US in the first place" flavor of replies is my new bar for telling on yourself that you don't do this work.
@mttaggart Tell me you don't do threat intel without telling me you do threat intel.
@mttaggart As a former IC sr. analyst you're not sounding alarmist. The insider threats are running the shop. The coup has succeeded. Everything must be considered manipulated.
@mttaggart Sure thing. Just like Europe & Canada need to move forward without the US, we (businesses, individuals and community organizations) need to find ways to work around the US government.
@mttaggart Is there a place where you're organizing with others on how to best respond to the intel compromise? I'm seeking community of like minded tech eng and infosec pros. Thanks!
@nicksilkey So far, here. But I'm sure there's more to come.
@mttaggart This reminds me of my reaction when I saw reports that some US officials (who've since denied it) wanted Canada out of Five Eyes. I thought "actually, that sounds like a good idea, and Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom should be out of it as well".
@mttaggart "and we (industries) are going to have to build our own intel apparatus" - The current intel apparatus is run by the industrie. Surely not by the people.

@mttaggart

What does this even mean? The US has a long and well-documented history of putting backdoors in every tech product and spying on everyone. Does it mean that previously you trusted the people doing this spying and now you don''t?

@mttaggart Are you implying that, as a local agency ISO, they might want to build out a cyber defense that is independent of any Federal infrastructure or intelligence?

Or that any agency that is quietly already moving along those lines might be taking the correct approach?

Because, well, you know that would kind of cyncial... /s
